The WAMA Crosstown Jam is an annual area-wide fundraiser and music showcase presented by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA). Now in its thirteenth year, the Jam, drawing on the area's rich cross-section of musical styles and talent, features over 150 artists/groups at some thirty venues in the Washington area. The shows run the musical spectrum from blues to bluegrass and jazz to alternative rock, r&b, and hip hop. The musicians donate their time and talent and the venues donate the admission charges. The WAMA Crosstown Jam has been a wonderful way for area artists to showcase their talent while giving back to the community and raising much needed funds for charity.

Fifty percent of the net is donated to Washington based charities chosen by the WAMA board of directors each year. The other fifty percent helps to fund ongoing WAMA projects. More than $150,000.00 has been raised for dozens of area charities.

1986, the WAMA Board had determined that part of WAMA's mission would be to do charity events. The Charitable Events Committee was formed and soon began searching for a club and some musicians to take part in a charity concert. The response was so strong from bands and club owners that nine shows and fifty artists contributed to what became the first Crosstown Jam.
